In co-operation with the St. Ann’s Bay Development Association, Business Cape Breton is pleased to present Dr. Alastair MacLeod outlining Tips for Productive Meetings.

Dr. MacLeod has extensive experience in chairing effective meetings. For 8 and a half years, he was the volunteer Chair of the Citizens’ Liaison Committee of the Sydney Tar Ponds Cleanup Project. The committee was comprised of 15 organizations and government representatives faced with many challenges throughout the years leading to the successful completion of the project.

He has also served in a volunteer capacity as a Director of the Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce, Director of Nova Scotia Business Inc, President of the Nova Scotia Chambers of Commerce, and was inducted into the Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame in 2007.

Some of the topics to be discussed in Tips for Productive Meetings:

• The role of the Chair and Committee Members.

• The structure of effective meetings.

• The importance of welcoming new members.

• The need for respectful and inclusive discussions.

• How to reach consensus.

As well, discussion will take place with Bernadette MacNeil, Manager of Marketing and Administration for the Port of Sydney Development Corporation regarding cruise ship shore excursions and what tour operators look for in order to include a location in their itinerary.
