TIPS FOR PRODUCTIVE MEETINGS

Business Cape Breton, in co-operation with the Isle Madame Tourism and Trade Association and the Municipality of Richmond, will present a luncheon on April 28 in Arichat on the topic of “Tips for Productive Meetings.”

Some of the items to be covered in the presentation and the ‘Question and Answer’ discussion:

  • The role of the Chair and Committee Members.
  • The structure of effective meetings.
  • The importance of welcoming new members.
  • The need for respectful and inclusive discussions.
  • How to reach consensus.

The Guest Speaker is Alastair MacLeod who has extensive experience in chairing community meetings.  For 8 years, Alastair chaired the Citizens’ Liaison Committee for the Sydney Tar Ponds Cleanup.  This committee comprised representatives from 15 community organizations, who met monthly with an equivalent number of government and cleanup officials. He has also served in a volunteer capacity as a director of the Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce, a director of Nova Scotia Business Inc., and President of the Nova Scotia Chambers of Commerce. In 2007, he was inducted into the Cape Breton Business Hall of Fame.

Beginning in 1997, Alastair assisted Dr. Gary Samson from time-to-time in Arichat’s Isle Madame Dental Centre.
