The Cape Breton Small Business Development Centre is pleased to announce two upcoming events featuring outstanding guest speakers.

The Women in Business 2014 Conference and Awards Gala will be held Thursday, October 23 at the Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront. Guest speaker for the Luncheon will be Stacey MacNeil, VP of Employee Communications with Hewlett Packard. Born in Cape Breton, Ms. MacNeil began her university education at CBU and is now based in Palo Alto, California where she oversees communications for HP’s 330,000 person workforce located in 170 countries. She is a valued member of the Shannon School of Business Advisory Board at CBU, along with a variety of business groups and organizations. 

The WIB Conference Gala Awards Dinner, recognizing the achievements of Cape Breton women in business will again feature Bette MacDonald, back by popular demand. Bette is a comedian, actress, Gemini award winner and star of the Mr. D television series and is a crowd favourite every year. 

Anne Whelan, 2014 CEO of the Year in Atlantic Canada, will be the Guest Speaker on September 25 at the Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront for a business luncheon “Sustainable Industries for Island Economies”. Ms. Whelan is the President and CEO of Seafair Capital Inc. which includes businesses in health and community care, industrial, hospitality and real estate in Newfoundland and Labrador.  Click here for more information on Ms. Whelan.  She is a member of the Board of Governors of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council (APEC), the Board of Directors of Newfoundland and Labrador Oil and Gas Industries Association(NOIA) and of Newfoundland Power.  

Eileen Lannon Oldford, CEO of the Cape Breton Small Business Development Centre (CBSBDC) said she is delighted to have speakers of the calibre of Anne Whelan and Stacey MacNeil share their extraordinary business knowledge and skills with local entrepreneurs. “Both ladies are highly respected professionals, not only in Atlantic Canada but nationally and inter-nationally”, said Oldford.
